Logan Rivers can't seem to catch a break. His manuscript has been shot down multiple times by his editor, and his parents—successful professors with many publications under their belts—continue to turn a blind eye to his struggle. In an attempt to distract himself from his dead-on-arrival career as a nonfiction author, Logan passes his time people-watching. He takes the interactions of random strangers and spins them into works of fiction as a substitute for any real human interaction.

To his horror, Isabella Abram gets her hands on the journal containing the entries of his embarrassing pastime. She sees the potential in his writing and offers to become his new editor. While Logan tries to keep the true nature of his journal under wraps, he begins to learn that Isabella has a few secrets of her own. The unlikely pair set out to publish Logan's first novel, but it becomes clear that keeping their relationship strictly professional is going to be a problem.
